FAAS-40 for GPs
CPD-accredited training to support referral decisions for women presenting with possible ADHD
Women who present with possible ADHD are frequently missed, delayed, or misattributed to anxiety, stress, burnout, trauma, or hormonal transition. Many are articulate, high-masking, and outwardly coping, while experiencing significant internal and functional strain.
In primary care, the challenge is rarely “spotting ADHD.”
It’s having a structured way to capture functional impact quickly, document it clearly, and decide whether referral for specialist assessment is appropriate.
FAAS-40 is designed to support that exact clinical moment.
What FAAS-40 is
FAAS-40 is a non-diagnostic referral decision aid and structured functional awareness framework that supports GP consultations by organising information about lived functional impact across key life domains.
It helps you gather the information that is often missing in female presentations (masking, compensatory strategies, internal load) and translate it into clearer clinical documentation to support referral quality.
What FAAS-40 is not
FAAS-40 is not:
It does not determine outcomes. It supports professional judgement.
This CPD training is for:
What you’ll be able to do after the training
Clinicians leave the course able to:
Women are disproportionately missed or delayed in ADHD pathways due to masking, socialisation, and gender bias in symptom recognition.
FAAS-40 supports a shift away from “how she appears” and towards how she functions — improving fairness, clarity, and patient experience while protecting clinicians and pathways.

Is this the same as diagnosing ADHD?
No. FAAS-40 is not diagnostic. It supports GP consultations and referral decision-making only.
Does this replace NHS or Right to Choose processes?
No. It complements existing pathways by improving the quality and clarity of consultation documentation and referral letters.
Will this increase referrals?
It typically improves appropriateness. In many settings it helps reduce missed referrals (women who should have been referred) while also reducing inappropriate referrals through clearer differentiation and documentation.
Is this suitable if we already use ASRS or other tools?
Yes. FAAS-40 is designed to support functional mapping and structured consultation flow. It can sit alongside existing questionnaires where appropriate.
Can we run it as a practice session?
Yes. Practice sessions are available and can be tailored to your team’s needs and time constraints.
