The Soma Thera Release System® Practitioner Training with CPD accredited hours.
A pioneering mind–body approach created by Caralyn Bains, AFBPsS
The Soma Thera Release System® (TSTRS®) is a groundbreaking somatic psychology informed method designed to help individuals safely process stored tension, emotional overwhelm, and trauma-related body patterns. Developed and refined by Caralyn Bains, Psychologist (AFBPsS), TSTRS® integrates knowledge from neuroscience, embodied healing practices
, autonomic regulation, and therapeutic presence into a structured yet gentle practice.
This accredited training teaches practitioners how to guide clients through a calibrated somatic release method that supports emotional processing, nervous system recalibration, and improved psychological wellbeing.
What Is The Soma Thera Release System®?
TSTRS® is built on five core principles:
1. Neurotherapeutic Plasticity
Your body enters a window where rewiring is possible. TSTRS® works with this window, not against it.
2. Vagal Recalibration & Regulation
Softening sympathetic over-drive and helping the vagus nerve re-establish safe patterns of emotional and physiological balance.
3. Somatic Pattern Release
Gently unwinding the tension-movement-emotion loops held in the body, often since childhood or trauma exposure.
4. Therapeutic Presence
Grounded, attuned practitioner facilitation, the “container” for safe emotional unbinding.
5. Meaning-Making & Integration
When the body releases, the mind can process allowing clarity, insight, and emotional coherence.
STRS® is not counselling nor clinical. It is a somatic psychological technique that supports trauma recovery, emotional processing, and nervous system regulation through the body’s own healing mechanisms.

TSTRS™ – The Soma Thera Release System™
A Psychologically-Informed Somatic Framework for Trauma-Aware Practice
The Soma Thera Release System™ (TSTRS™) is a gentle, structured, psychologically-informed framework developed by Caralyn Bains (AFBPsS, MABP) to support emotional regulation, somatic settling, and trauma-aware practice.
TSTRS™ brings together years of frontline trauma work, academic training, and applied somatic experience into a clear, ethical, client-led system that practitioners can use within their existing scope of practice.
Rather than being a clinical “therapy,” TSTRS™ is an evidence-informed intervention framework designed to complement and enhance the work of coaches, therapists, psychologists, and wellbeing professionals.
Why TSTRS™ Was Developed
TSTRS™ grew from more than a decade of working with traumatised individuals, families, and professionals.
Across roles, Caralyn observed the same recurring challenges:
During the COVID-19 pandemic, working voluntarily as a trauma coach supporting NHS staff, these gaps became even clearer.
Frontline workers carried immense bodily stress
TSTRS™ was created to offer exactly that, a compassionate, ethical, somatic framework grounded in psychological principles. What TSTRS™ Involves
TSTRS™ integrates several evidence-informed components, including:
Nervous-System Regulation
Guiding clients to stabilise the autonomic nervous system to support emotional safety and presence.
Breath-Supported Emotional Processing
Gentle, permission-based breath practices that assist emotional settling without overwhelm.
Micro-Movement & Somatic Unwinding
Subtle movement patterns that support the release of held tension and improve embodied awareness.
Trauma-Informed Pacing & Consent
Every step is collaborative, client-led, and grounded in safety.
Nothing is done to the client, everything is done with them.
💛
Applied Psychological Principles
Drawing on trauma awareness, limbic settling, body-based regulation, and reflective processing.
No single element is new on its own — the power of TSTRS™ lies in the structured integration of these principles into one cohesive practitioner framework.
